Positive Pandemic Effects on the OBX

Jeff Scott Realty: Positive Pandemic Effects on the OBXIn some ways, 2020 has been like a science fiction movie. Not many of us would have imagined what living through a pandemic would be like. It’s been a challenge to deal with its negative effects. Some good things have come out of this, let focus on the positive pandemic effects on the OBX.

Many families are spending more time with each other than they ever would have. The Outer Banks is an ideal family place.  Each year thousands upon thousands of families and good friends come here to get away from their stressful lives and spend time together. It’s a joy to see families enjoying the Outer Banks.  Quarantines, virtual school, and work have further extended that OBX family time into the fall.  This is a great opportunity for parents to have a more positive impact on their children.

The pandemic also reinforced my belief that Outer Bankers look out for each other. During the worst of it, some restaurants offered free meals where the hungry could drive through their parking lot and pick up dinner. The beach food pantry also provided food for hundreds of people who could not work. Neighbors reached out to neighbors and looked out for each other. The best of an American small town has been clearly evident here.

Most likely you’ve heard that real estate is booming on the Outer Banks. A large part of why is because people see the Outer Banks as a refuge to get away from the stresses of everyday life in a pandemic. This is positive for both locals and Outer Banks property owners.

Hopefully, the pandemic is over soon. I expect we’ll get through this together and be better people when we can return to a more normal way of life.
