If you’re considering a new roof, you may want to explore the benefits of a fortified roof. The North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association is one of the first in the U.S. to offer grants for roofs designed to withstand high winds.
A fortified roof involves specific upgrades, such as sealing the decking beneath the shingles and using a nailing pattern that strengthens the roof’s durability. Beyond offering better protection for your home, this type of roof can also lower your insurance premiums. While a fortified roof may cost slightly more than a standard one, the available grants—currently up to $10,000—often cover the difference.
